Manheim Report by VIN — Dealer-Auction Condition & Grade
By autoVIN Editorial · Updated 2026-09-24
Review Manheim dealer-auction condition history by VIN, when available: the inspector's condition report, vehicle grade, announcements and auction photos. Manheim sale prices and MMR values are not part of this report — what you get is the condition side of the wholesale market.

What is in a Manheim report?
A Manheim report by VIN shows the dealer-auction condition side of a vehicle's history: prior Manheim sale dates and locations, the inspector's Condition Report (damage items with description and severity), the vehicle grade, drivable and engine-starts flags, odometer at check-in, announcements (structural damage, prior paint, title issues) and the inspection photos. It does not include Manheim sale (hammer) prices or MMR values — those are licensed dealer data that per-VIN reports cannot legitimately resell.
MMR — and why it is not in this report
MMR (Manheim Market Report) is Manheim's wholesale price benchmark, calculated from recent auction sales for the same year, make, model, trim and mileage band. It is licensed to Manheim dealer-account holders and is not part of any per-VIN history report, including this one. What this report gives you instead is the condition evidence behind a price decision: the grade, the inspector's damage items and the announcements. Combine those with your own comparable-sales research — or a dealer partner's MMR access — to set an acquisition ceiling.
Why dealers run Manheim before sourcing inventory
Used-car dealers source inventory from trade-ins, private acquisitions and dealer auctions — dominated by Manheim. Before bidding, a dealer pulls the vehicle's auction history to check three things: (1) has this car run through Manheim before, and how often — frequent flips are a warning sign, (2) what announcements were declared (frame, structural, salvage), and (3) what condition grade the inspector assigned. The Manheim report is the condition-and-disclosure equivalent of a vehicle history report — the same VIN-driven lookup, tuned for the dealer side of the market.
Manheim vs auction-photo reports — what each tells you
Copart and IAAI sell salvage and totaled cars; Manheim sells the cars dealers trade with each other — usually clean-title, fixable, off-lease, off-rental. The reports reflect that. A Copart report is built around photos of damage; a Manheim report is built around the inspector's condition report and disclosures (announcements). If a vehicle has both a Manheim history and a Copart or IAAI history, it usually means the car was salvaged, rebuilt, then traded back into the dealer pipeline — exactly the lifecycle you want disclosed before you buy.
Frequently Asked Questions
When is a Manheim report most useful?
It is most useful while shortlisting wholesale vehicles and prioritizing in-lane or online bids.
Can I use Manheim checks for pre-export sourcing?
Yes. Many buyers use these checks as part of export-focused due diligence.
Is this suitable for small dealers too?
Yes. It works for both independent dealers and larger sourcing teams.
Does the Manheim report include MMR or sale prices?
No. MMR values and Manheim sale (hammer) prices are licensed dealer data and are not included in this or any legitimate per-VIN report. The report contains the inspector's condition report, vehicle grade, announcements, photos and prior sale-lane details (dates and locations).
Does a Manheim report show accidents or title brands?
Manheim-focused data is most useful for wholesale/auction context. For title brands and mileage timeline checks, use a traditional vehicle history report and official paperwork verification.
Can this report tell me what the car is worth?
Not directly — it contains no prices. Use the grade, the condition items and the announcements to judge condition risk, then set your own value from retail comparables for that year, make, model and mileage. A clean grade supports a stronger price; heavy announcements justify a discount.
Do I need a subscription?
No. You can buy checks as needed for specific vehicles, which is often better than paying for a subscription you do not use.
Does this replace inspection and paperwork checks?
No. Use it as screening and context. For serious candidates, confirm condition with inspection and verify title/registration requirements in your jurisdiction.
